The four day Essence Music Festival has come and gone and it was everything that we expected and more. Some of our favorite R&B and soul musicians showcased their talent as well as some new comers that got our attention.

There were more than a dozen performances each night, with shows taking place simultaneously across different stages at the New Orleans Superdome. D’Angelo ripped the stage during his 75 minute set, which was by far one of our favorite performances of the festival.

In addition to D’Angelo, legends including Charlie Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Mary J. Blige rocked the crowd. We got a nice surprise when 90’s R&B Super-group Dru Hill and Carl Thomas made their return to the stage, making us remember why they were once at number one. Last but not least, new comers Melanie Fiona and Luke James gave it there all on stage showing why they are considered the next rising stars.
