Last night, Fantasia received one of the best album release parties one could imagine!
It wasn’t about the big names this time, it was about the caliber of talent and undeniable love in the building!! The ‘Side Effects of You’ release party was held at XL Nightclub in New York City and some of your FAVORITE r&b singers were in the building….Well maybe they weren’t your favorite but I bet they will be after you see these performances!
Prepare to be taken to church by Yummy Bingham …I promise you… you haven’t heard ‘Do Not Pass Me By’ like this EVER before! R&B crooner Joe was there to sing his all time favorite song, “I wanna know” and Kenny Latimore performed his fan favorite, ‘For You’.
Ahhhh, Love was definitely in the air….you could feel it through the computer screen! Missy Elliott, Mona Scott, Monifah and many more were in attendance to show support for r&b diva, Fanny Mae!
After all was said and done, you know the event couldn’t end without Fantasia blessing the mic with her latest single, ‘Lose to Win’! Of course the impromptu performance was off the HOOK but before doing so she gave a heart-felt speech to all that attended:
I haven’t had all this love since my first album. So, to have you guys come out and support me after all that I’ve been through. On this album I was able to tell my story. I didn’t let nobody speak for me, I said it the way I wanted to say it. And, I said before I go back into the studio, I won’t go back until they let me do what I want to. You know, sometimes you gotta stand up for yourself. What happened was, since I was so quiet all the time, and I was this country, gullible, fun…kool-aid smile, … everyone thought they could take licks and throw stones at me, but that Fantasia is gone. Now, I’m speaking for myself, they told their story, now let me tell mine. The Side Effects Of You is not just about a man, trust me, he’s in the story, The Side Effects Of You is about the industry, family, friends, those who said they love you and you turn around and they’re gone. My grandmother said, “You don’t cry over spilled milk, you pick up and move on.
