It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the World’s Highest-Paid Celebrity Couple is Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z.
The duo still managed to come in at first place this year although Beyonce took a break to give birth to daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
Beyonce raked in a total of $40 million from her album sales and endorsement deals while hubby Jay-z almost matched his wife bringing in a solid $38 million from his “Watch the Throne tour” and other endorsements. Total that up and the couple’s annual income equals to a whopping $78 million dollars!
Its great to see a black couple earning millions together, but what good is it to have all that money and not give back to the community or charitable causes. According to Belafonte, Jay-Z and Beyonce are examples of powerful celebrities who have abandoned their communities.
When asked if he was happy with the image of minorities in Hollywood today, Belafonte revealed:
“Not at all. They have not told the history of our people, nothing of who we are. We are still looking. We are not determinated. We are not driven by some technology that says you can kill Afghans, the Iraqis or the Spanish. It is all — excuse my French — s**t. It is sad. And I think one of the great abuses of this modern time is that we should have had such high-profile artists, powerful celebrities. But they have turned their back on social responsibility. That goes for Jay-Z and Beyonce, for example. Give me Bruce Springsteen, and now you’re talking. I really think he is black.”
OUCH!!
Reportedly the married performers haven’t spent much time donating to charitable causes. The Daily noted that Jay-Z had donated a measly $6,431 to his own Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund in 2010, a year when he earned an estimated $63 million.
I’m sure Beyoncé has probably spent more than that on her designer purses, at this point…and rightfully so. But “To whom much is given much is required”….marinate on that!
