Last week, the 44 yo rapper Heavy collapsed outside his Beverly Hills condo. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on Nov. 8th.
Heavy D, a legend in hip-hop, was remembered by family and friends including President Obama — in a funeral service in Mount Vernon,York.\r\nRev. Al Sharpton delivered the message below from President Obama in which he was instructed to read directly to Heavy D”s daughter Xea:
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
Xea Myers, Heavy D”s 11-year-old daughter, also spoke briefly, telling the audience that her father was “still here, not in the flesh, but in the spirit.”\r\n\r\nSean “Diddy” Combs paid tribute to Heavy D during his funeral also as he talked about how Heavy D helped give him his start in the music industry, and how their decades-long friendship continued up until Heavy D”s death.
Jay Z, Will Smith & Jada, Usher, Salt-N-Pepa, Samuel L Jackson, John legend and more were in attendance.
RIP Heavy, you will me remembered.
