The home-going service for Kriss Kross’ Chris Kelly happened today in Atlanta, Ga.
Over 300+ friends, family and fellow entertainers including Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, Keke Wyatt and members from Xscape were in the building to pay their respects.
The other member of Kriss Kross, Chris Smith spoke at the funeral services, as he struggled to get out his speech over the pulpit of Jackson Baptist Memorial Church.
“It’s been a struggle for me every day, but there was a peace that came over me this morning because I know he’s in heaven,” Smith said, as tears fell down his face. He continued, “We had so many memories…..he was a true friend. He wanted to see if I was all right. So I just want to say I love you, man, and I’ll miss you.”
Kelly’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratte (seen below)
wept throughout the entire funeral service while she stared at her son’s casket. At the beginning of the service, she pleaded for the deacons not to close the coffin.
“Please don’t close it,” she screamed. “Please don’t close it on my baby.”
Two of the four members of the band Xscape, sisters LaTocha and Tamika Scott also performed.
“He just wanted to smile. That’s all he wanted,” Tamika Scott said when she arrived. “He was known to be a happy person.”
